Get back to school ready this August with our Brand of the Month, Kickers!

Posted By: FYFO on 04 August 2015

As the new school year approaches the list of back to school essentials begins to grow! One of the most difficult items to find can be perfect fitting, hardwearing school shoes. This is precisely why we have chosen Kickers as our Brand of the Month for August. Fresh from their win at the Drapers Footwear Awards 2015 for best Kids Brand of the Year, Kickers make finding ideal school footwear easy. With a strong range of styles in high quality leather with the additional benefit of scuff resistant features, there isn’t much more you could ask for!

Kickers began life in the 1970’s when a French fashion visionary named Daniel Raufast developed a new style of casual boot to wear with jeans. Kickers soon captured the interest of both fashion and music enthusiasts and grew into the unique brand that it is today.

Probably the most recognised style, The Kick Hi, has become iconic for Kickers. First produced in 1975, and still at the forefront of each collection, it has proved it’s dominance and durability for 30 years. Constantly being reinvented whilst staying true to its original design elements, the Kick Hi is definitely a style worth investing in.

Kickers distinctive approach to designing footwear has led to the brand gaining a reputation worldwide for high quality, classic and relaxed footwear, which has an unmissable attention to detail. Its popularity can be the result of many reasons, but perhaps it is the fact that Kickers is a brand that’s accessible to all that really sets them apart. Their appeal to multiple ages, genders and lifestyles, combined with the unrivalled comfort and style in every shoe, makes Kickers a brand that withstands passing trends, and thrives in a highly competitive market.

These webbing hook and loop straps were a solution to a common surfing problem of loosing watches in the water due to straps breaking under extreme conditions. The ease of wear and sturdiness of the strap allowed it to cross over to a vast variety of other actions sports, such as skateboarding, snowboarding and mountain biking. Soon, Animal found their success growing and the business expanded into sports watches, and before long their range developed into not only accessories, but clothing, footwear, eyewear, wetsuits and much more. Today, Animal has an extensive team of riders who, through their ‘rider-refined’ program test all Animal products to ensure their performance is of the highest standard.

The ‘Prince George Effect’ rejuvenates Crocs into a must-have kid’s shoe

Posted By: FYFO on 06 July 2015

It is fair to say that Crocs are the type of shoe that divides opinion. However, it seems that with the help of little Prince George that brand has received a welcome boost in popularity and consequently, profit. Recently pictured sporting a pair whilst watching his dad, the Duke of Cambridge, play in a charity polo match, the prince has set off a surge purchases, with the shoes enjoying an increase of 1,500% in worldwide sales.

This certainly isn’t the first time the Prince’s style has caused a stir. In 2014, after official Christmas photographs of Prince George were released with him wearing Cath Kidston’s knitted guard tank top, the brand had to rush to restock this sort-after item. It seems the Prince, like his mother, has the fashion world watching and waiting for what he will wear next.

Luckily, here at FYFO, we still have George’s chosen style of Crocs in stock. The Crocband Slip On in navy features a secure heel strap and is made from croslite material for lightweight cushioning. The design also features a red and white striped print along the rim of the shoe, tapping into the nautical trend this summer. You can shop this style here, or our full range of Crocs here.

FYFO Festival Guide

Posted By: FYFO on 22 June 2015

It’s festival season! So we have taken it upon ourselves to provide you with a comprehensive guide of the hottest festival SS15 trends, the top festivals to be at this summer and most importantly a checklist of essentials to ensure you’ve got everything you need to take on the festival season in style!

Festival Fashion Essentials

If you are looking for a festival survival kit then we are here to help! We understand that it can be tricky to plan your festival wardrobe but with these 6 essentials you will be ready for anything!

1. Rain Mac

It is a well-known fact that English weather is unpredictable, we will pray for sun but our prayers are more than often not answered. So we have to take it upon ourselves to be prepared for all occasions! This is why a stylish rain mac is number 1 on our list.

2. Wellies

Carrying on with the weather-proof theme, a trusty pair of wellies has become a festival must-have. Whether you go for a classic forest green or busy floral print they are a vital addition to any festival outfit. Let’s face it, no one wants soggy feet!

3. Oversized Sunglasses

If you’re lucky enough for the sun to make an appearance there’s nothing more perfect to complement your festival look than a pair of oversized sunnies! Wayfarer, Aviator or Cat Eye, it’s up to you but you can be sure there will be no squinting at the stage by wearing this essential!

4. Fancy Headwear

Headbands, headdresses and headpieces have become synonymous with festival fashion. Pretty florals and bright tribal designs are some of our favourites and will ensure your outfit stands out in the huge crowds!

5. Summer Sandals

It is summer after all, so sandals couldn’t be left off our list! Summer sandals are a definite if you’re partying at a festival abroad but even here in the UK they are a must, just in case the sun starts shining!

6. Face paint

The last on our checklist (and possibly our favourite) is a trend we will never get bored of! Who doesn’t love a bit of neon face paint to brighten up any festival style?!

SS15 Festival Trends

There are some festival trends that will remain a staple of most people’s festival fashion, however there are also some new standout trends you can incorporate into your style this summer. Therefore, to help you decide what to wear this festival season we have picked out our favourite trends and paired them with a top festival that best reflects each trend.

Metallic

Radio 1’s Big Weekend

When: 23rd-24th May

Where: Earlham Park, Norwich

Headliners: Taylor Swift, Florence and the Machine

Although this event has already happened, here at FYFO we got a little obsessed over Radio 1’s Big Weekend as it was held in Norwich where we are based! The headliners were 2 women known for their impeccable style and have both proved to be fans of the metallic trend. So in homage to Taylor and Florence we have chosen metallic as the top trend to wear to festivals this year. For the perfect metallic sandal check out the Birkenstock Madrid Slip On Mules in Silver on our site.

Fringe

Glastonbury

When: 24th – 28th June

Where: Worthy Farm, Pilton

Headliners: Florence and the Machine, Kanye West, The Who

Glastonbury is probably the most iconic British festival so of course we had to pair it with one of the most popular festival trends, fringe! Fringe encompasses the festival vibe in whatever form it comes in. So if you’re heading to Glastonbury this year make sure your fringe fashion is on-point! To get some inspiration, take a look at our Marco Tozzi Fringed Shoulder Bag that you can shop on our site.

Statement Sneakers

Wireless

When: 3rd-5th July

Where: Finsbury Park, London

Headliners: Drake, Avicii/Kendrick Lamar, David Guetta/Nicki Minaj

Wireless festival is all about celebrating Hip Hop and R&B culture so what better trend for this event than statement sneakers! Pair with leggings and a baggy t-shirt to get the full look. Check out our top pick for this trend, the Skechers Floral Boom Trainers on our site.

Neon

V Festival

When: 22nd-23rd August

Where: Chelmsford and Staffordshire

Headliners: Kasabian, Calvin Harris

Known for its pop/rock headliners and a fun and frivolous atmosphere it wasn’t difficult choosing the best trend to wear to this festival! So if you are on your way to V Festival this summer, embrace the neon trend by using bright face paints, wearing a colourful kimono or stepping out in some rainbow sandals!  Even if it’s pouring down with rain we’ve got the perfect neon wellie boot to brighten up every the dullest of weather. You can shop the Bogs Classic Bloom Wellington Boots on our site.

Earth Tones

Reading

When: 28th-30th August

Where: Richfield Avenue, Reading

Headliners: Mumford & Sons, Metallica, The Libertines

Earthy hues are a strong festival trend this summer. Taking us back to the roots of festivals and their use of the great outdoors, this trend is extremely versatile and ideal if you’re not a fan of bold colours and prints. Consequently the perfect match for this trend had to be Reading, the world’s oldest popular music festival still in existence. To complement this style take a look at our Gioseppo Alandroal Ankle Boots on our site.

Gladiator Sandals

Ibiza Rocks

When: June-September

Headliners: Sigma, Example, Rudimental, Mark Ronson

Over the last few years the rise of the Gladiator sandal has been monumental. It’s grown into the top choice of footwear not only for festivals, but also for the entire summer season itself. Always associated with hot weather there was only one festival we could choose where the Gladiator sandal can be worn to its full potential. Ibiza Rocks is 3 whole months of non-stop partying in the sun, sea and sand, with worldwide artists coming to perform exclusive gigs in the clubbing capital of the world. So if you’re spending part of your summer in Ibiza this year the Down to Earth Tan Gladiator Sandal should be the first thing you pack in your suitcase. You can shop it on FYFO here.

If you’re still after some more festival footwear inspiration, we have put together our favourite styles for all types of festivals on FYFO here.

Alternatively, if you’re struggling to decide what festival footwear to pack check out our weather guide below to make sure you’re equipped whether its rain or shine!

LCM boasts original designs and reinvented classics for Spring/Summer 16

Posted By: FYFO on 19 June 2015

Always one of the biggest events on the menswear calendar, LCM proved its prestige this year, with the best of British design talent displaying their offerings for Spring/Summer 16.  As well as the incredible clothing on show, there were some strong ranges of footwear that were both hugely commercial yet progressive. Check out our favourite shows and styles from this years LCM and find out how you can recreate them yourself!

Mr Hare

Mr Hare is certainly a brand with character and their SS16 collection proves that. Marc Hare, the founder and creator, has taken a step away from the formal western tailoring Mr Hare is known for, opting for a more relaxed feel with elements of African tribal dress. The collection was diverse and certainly easy to wear with our stand-out piece being the sand coloured, chunky soled boots. These are the ideal spring boot that will complement your smart/casual style perfectly.

If you’re looking to expand your footwear collection and want to invest in a similar style then we’ve got it covered! Check out our Frank Wright Barnet Desert Boots and recreate this look at a fraction of the cost!

Lathbridge by Patrick Cox

You can’t go wrong with a bit of summer camo and this year at LCM we loved the military vibes from Lathbridge by Patrick Cox. It was only the second outing for Lathbridge, with Patrick Cox only recently returning to footwear after a significant break. Known for his Wannabe 90’s loafers, Cox reinvented and upgraded his classic style with bold, photographic prints and hybrid silhouettes.

Shop the camo trend on FYFO with these Gola espadrilles. Pair with shorts and a baggy tee for that relaxed, casual look.

Alexander McQueen

When you think of iconic British fashion brands, Alexander McQueen is bound to appear on the list. Taking the sea as her inspiration, designer Sarah Burton gave the nautical trend a romantic edge with prints picturing mythical sea monsters, treasure maps and rolling waves. Footwear took the form of classic white, understated brogues and trainers that enhanced the array of bold suits and cropped trousers. This style is so easy to wear and is guaranteed to filter down to the high street for Spring 16.

If you want that McQueen edge, these Meadows formal lace ups are certain to freshen up your shoe game!

Jimmy Choo

Jimmy Choo put on a show for LCM, creating a skate park called ‘Jimmy Choo Sporting Club’ with BMX riders and skaters performing during the presentation. With the catwalk raised to audience eye-level, the shoes were put on full display. The collection featured an abundance of hi-tops and loafers in a multitude of colours, confirming that these styles reigned supreme at LCM this year.

Replicate that Jimmy Choo feel with these Gola Valiant and Race Runner hi tops and ensure you are prepared for SS16!

Local Charity Fashion Show raises over £3000 for Break in Norfolk

Posted By: FYFO on 15 June 2015

Supporting local fashion businesses and charities are two very important things for us here at FYFO. So when we heard The Cottage Hair and Beauty Salon were running a charity fashion show displaying fashions from the best boutiques in Norwich we had to attend!  The event, which took months of planning, was held at Norwich High School for Girls and showcased the strong range of well-known and unique brands stocked by local boutiques such as Ginger, Hatters, Aluna J and Prima Donna. Presented by Susie Fowler-Watt from BBC’s Look East, the evening also involved a charity auction and raffle as well as a talk from a representative from Break charity.

The evening began with summer styles from Aluna J, a recently opened independent boutique who stock brands exclusive to Norfolk, such as Geisha, Smashed Lemon, Uhdahl and Ashiana. Print was key for Alunla J, with bright floral bodycon dresses, snakeskin jumpsuits and leopard clutch bags. They definitely showed us that you could achieve individual style at extremely low price points. We might have to take a trip to the Royal Arcade in Norwich to get our hands on some of these incredible local brands!

Next came the boys from Hatters, launched all the way back in 1971 Hatters has grown from strength to strength in Norwich, giving the local people a wide range of contemporary brands. Showcasing a casual collection first, themes included nautical, sports luxe, preppy and even tropical vibes. There was definitely something there to take the fancy of any fashion conscious man, no matter how picky your style maybe!

If you are after understated class, look no further than Ginger. Born out of Hatters, this womenswear boutique stocks the best designer fashion in Norwich with both well-known and up and coming brands. Our personal favourite was the monochrome plaid suit, a must-have relaxed work look that we were lusting over all night!

Finishing the first half of the show was Catfish displaying a range of unique designer items that would be difficult to find anywhere else in Norwich! From Vivienne Westwood to Fred Perry, Catfish have got your entire designer needs covered. The neon orange maxi dress was the stand-out piece for us, ideal for any summer getaway!

Then came an inspiring talk from Break, reminding us all of the importance of the work they do in our area. Not only do they provide children’s’ homes for looked after children in East Anglia, they also continue to support young people as they move into adulthood through the Moving On Team. Their services are an imperative part of our community and vital help to many local children in need. Their current project is an interactive arts sculpture trail bringing 84 large and 100 small dragons to the streets of Norwich. Each dragon is sponsored by a local business, trust or group and will then be auctioned off to raise money for Break. The dragons have been painted by many local artists, one of whom was at the Charity Fashion Show where her dragon was revealed.

The second half began with another offering from Ginger and Hatters, this time showcasing their more formal attire. Both boutiques are known for their extensive formal collections, including many top designer names such as Armani, Paul Smith and Diane von Furstenberg.  Ginger bought pops of colour with an extremely on trend striped fit and flare dress and a poppy printed spring coat. The Hatters models were very suave and broke tradition by gracing the catwalks with array of coloured suits.

Continuing with the formal theme, the next selection came from Prima Donna Bridal, a mother and daughter run business with one of the largest bridal showrooms in Norwich. They showed off an impressive collection with pieces suitable for all types of formal occasion. Our particular favourite was a stunning red lace dress with an open back and crystal embellishment.

The finale of the show was definitely worth waiting for. Organisers of the event, The Cottage Hair and Beauty showcased the incredible talent of their stylists with a tribute to the hairstyles of the 1920’s-1990’s. They took us through the decades, letting us relive the iconic hairstyles of those eras. It was definitely a fitting end to a fantastic night of fashion, beauty and charity!

As the night drew to a close it was revealed that over £3000 had been raised for Break. We hope the success of the event and the money raised will help improve the lives of many children in our area as well as create awareness of the amazing local fashion businesses we have here in Norwich. We look forward to the next event!
